Meet Kate
How I got here.
Kate DawsonCounsellor & executive coach
For over twenty-six years, I built a career in the finance sector, where I held leadership roles focused not only on achieving results but, more importantly, on supporting, developing and empowering people. It was through those experiences that I discovered what truly mattered to me: helping others recognise their strengths, navigate challenges and grow with confidence.
Alongside my professional career, I trained as both a counsellor and an executive coach. My placement with Cruse Bereavement Support was deeply meaningful, shaped by my own experiences of loss and a desire to support others through some of life’s most difficult moments. It reinforced my belief in the value of compassionate, person-centred support and the healing that can come from feeling genuinely heard.
Why this work
Both sides of the conversation.
I have sat on both sides of the conversations people bring to therapy and coaching, the professional and the personal, and I know how rarely the two stay neatly separate. Our experiences, relationships and emotions inevitably influence every part of our lives. When we feel conflicted internally, it can become difficult to thrive personally, professionally and in our relationships.
This understanding is at the heart of Steady Presence Therapy. Whether you come to counselling to explore your past and present, or to coaching to focus on your future, I offer a calm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can gain clarity, develop resilience and create meaningful, lasting growth.
How I work
My approach
Life can feel overwhelming at times. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, therapy offers a space to pause, reflect and move forward.
At Steady Presence Therapy, I provide a calm, compassionate and confidential environment where you can explore your thoughts and experiences at your own pace. Working from an integrative approach that combines person-centred and psychodynamic therapy, I believe that understanding both your past and your present can create meaningful and lasting change.
My role isn’t to tell you who to become, but to walk alongside you as you develop greater self-awareness, resilience and confidence. Together, we’ll make sense of what’s happening, recognise patterns that may no longer serve you, and create space for healing, growth and a more authentic way of living.
I believe that meaningful change happens through a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy and consistency. Sometimes the greatest step forward begins simply by having someone beside you who offers a steady presence.
Wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome here.

The practical details
How we work together
Sessions can be online or by phone. It’s open to your preference and how you feel most comfortable working with me.
Sessions are 50 minutes. I usually work on a weekly basis, but we can agree in the initial meeting what would work best for you, and check back once we are into a routine.
There is no charge for the initial 30 minute session. This is for us to meet each other remotely, for me to understand more about what has brought you here and what it is you are wanting to work on.
At present I have two times available on Wednesday evenings.
